Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Genotyping

Test Mnemonic HCV Genotyping
Detection HCV Subtyping 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 3a
Methodology Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) followed by LIPA detection.
Service  Monday - Friday.
Turn Around Time 14 days.
Collection Tubes EDTA (lavender top) or ACD (yellow-top) 

Note: Heparinized samples cannot be used.

Specimen Requirements

Whole blood (min. 3 mL)  

Use standard procedures to remove plasma from cells within 3 hours of collection.  Specimen may be stored at 2-8°C for up to 5 days.

Special Instructions:  Store and transport at room temperature; Specimen must be received within 48 hours of collection; Plasma may be stored frozen at -20°C for 72 hours or -80°C indefinitely. 

Please complete the Diagnostic Service Request Form (shown below) and forward it with the specimen.

Rejection Criteria:  Heparinized specimen.  Plasma left on cells for >3 hours.
